who served the troops to doughnuts and coffee in 1944-45
Our thanks to Paul and Rosie Gray for sharing this wonderful experience with us, allowing those of us who were unable to be there in person to see some of the sights they saw. We can only imagine the emotional atmosphere this holy place can impart on Veteran visitors who took part in the Invasion of Normandy.

D - Day 65th Anniversary
The Newton Kids, Benjamin & Caleb,
sent these pictures taken during their visit at the Ceremony in Normandy on
June 6th 2009
Here is their report:
The first day we went to the Normandy Cemetery we inquired about attending the ceremony. We were told by the staff that the ceremony was by invitation only, so we weren't expecting to be able to attend. However, they referred us to a Captain Carpenter, who was in charge of the Veterans who were attending the Ceremonies. In our attempts to find him, we were stopped by the Secret Service who said Carpenter was in a security meeting. We did finally manage to connect with him, and he was most kind and helpful. When Zandra Marlow (daughter of Jay E. Hansford < Co. 'A' - KIA on D-Day on Omaha Beach >) told him that her Dad was buried at the Cemetery, he immediately said he would be providing us with invitations to the Ceremony. He gave us four distinguished-looking invitations and even provided his cell phone number in the event we had any trouble getting through security. The seats we were assigned were only 14 rows from the front, just 3 rows behind the VIP seats. We never imagined we would be privileged to have such good seats.
